6. Summary and Suggestions



Purposes of practicum
      The SEA Teacher Project 2023 or Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia is a project that aims to provide opportunities for student teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to gain teaching experience (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia. The objectives of this project are:
  1. To help student teachers develop their teaching and pedagogical skills.
  2. To encourage student teachers to prepare themselves for the future
  3. Help the student teachers to develop themselves as teacher aspirant to become a professional educator in the future. Enrich and expand my horizon in teaching profession
  4. To practice their English language skills, so that student teachers can gain a broader view of education at the regional and world levels.
  5. To expose student teachers to diverse teaching and learning situations and opportunities, and the value of flexibility.
Procedures of practicum
     SEA teacher Project batch 9 was held for 1 month from September 1, 2023 until September 29 when I returned to Indonesia.  The practicum process is divided into 4 stages. The first stage is observation, at this stage I will observe the state of the school, facilities, school provisions, and observe how to teach in class and also consult with the cooperative teacher. 
     Second teaching practice, at this stage after 1 week of observation I will start teaching in class as a form of adaptation and implementing the knowledge I gained during observation. 

Third teaching practice and reflection, in this week I am still teaching and getting used to classroom management and also reflecting on what parts need improvement and at the same time getting advice and input from cooperating teachers. 

The last stage is the final demonstration (evaluation), creating a blog and closing ceremony. At this stage when I have taught in class, I will conduct a teaching evaluation observed by cooperating teachers and teachers from the UIC campus. After completion, I can create a blog and finally the closing ceremony held by the UIC campus.

Outcomes of practicum
The results of this practicum program that I got were:
    Gained a lot of knowledge, especially biological science, and how to teach well, as well as the latest media that can be used. Through this program, it can open my horizons about various international education systems. Gave me the opportunity to improve my English skills Knowing and being able to apply good Philippine culture. In a way, I became more mature because I could experience living alone in another country. I traveled alone from Indonesia to Davao and I had the best experience.  I became more confident in using English and my English skills improved a lot because every time I spoke, the students were fascinated by the way I pronounced some words so it made me more precise in pronunciation and I felt like a native English speaker. I became more experienced, I was able to teach students from other countries and know more about their education and culture which means I have something that other teachers my age don't have. 

The Challenges Of Practicum
     The challenge when joining this program is language. Since in Davao English is a second language, students here are very good at speaking English. even though my English is not good, sometimes there are several things that make students not understand what I say. However, after teaching several times, I was finally able to overcome this.

Overall impression

    I gained a lot of knowledge about education in the Philippines, not only about education, I also gained experience about the culture in Davo City, Philippines. Taking part in this activity really improved my English skills. I am very proud to be part of the SEA-Teacher project batch 9 2023 participants.

Suggestions for future improvement 
Suggestions for future improvement, I suggest for the next batch of SEA-Teachers are:
  • Host universities and host schools should collaborate more with each other.
  • I suggest for the sending university to make sure to send at least 2 students. 
  • My suggestion for the next batch is to increase the quota of participant
  • My suggestion for SEA-Teachers is to add new majors that can join the practicum participants.

Our Field Trip In Davao City EDEN Nature Park and Resort Davao        Based on the schedule, we have a visit. On September 09, 2023. Accompanied by our beloved madi, danica, Mrs. Pregua and Mrs. Hellen, we went to EDEN Nature Park and Resort Davao.  Here I was with ayunie from malaysia and friends from Thailand (Sabi, oliver, Film, Foei-fei, and Tailer) at EDEN park initially we played at the bamboo maze. After that we took pictures at the EDEN PARK sign.      We started our tour with a shuttle tour. We also had a tour guide in the shuttle tour car. During the tour, we stopped at some of the iconic areas in EDEN Park. Our first stop was the Amphitheater & Flower Garden. 1. SCHOOL : GENERAL INFORMATION AND ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATION

  1. School: General Information and Academic Administration School profile The University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) began in 1905. UIC is a private Catholic basic and higher education institution administered by the Religious of the Virgin Mary in Davao City, Davao del Sur, Philippines.  (S ource:  Main Campus  https://www.facebook.com/RVMUICDAVAO/photos/a.1947937795434119/2837965769764646/?type=3&theater) After I made observations, I know that UIC has three separate campuses: Fr. Selga campus (Main), Bonifacio campus (Annex) and Bajada campus (basic education). During me in davao city, I stay at dorm Fr. Selga campus (Main).  In this dormitory we live with other international students and UIC students. This UIC dormitory is for women only and has a rule that all gates and doors will be closed at 9 pm. MY CLOSING CEREMONY

  My Closing Ceremony     On September 28, 2023, one day before my return to Indonesia, a closing ceremony was held at UIC's Bonifacio campus. This event took place with the delivery of impressions of messages and expressions of my gratitude to the Immaculate Conception University for helping and facilitating me during my internship here.       I received a token from UIC as a memento. Here I also presented a singing performance. Then after the event was over mam lolly as the dean and also mam helene invited me and my budies to have dinner together. The next day Sir Rene who is the international student coordinator lecturer gave me a certificate as proof that I had completed and participated in a teaching internship at UIC for 1 month.
