5. TEACHING PRACTICE

5. Teaching Practice

Procedures of Teaching

While teaching at UIC senior high school, grade 10 to be precise, there were several procedures that I needed to do in the classroom when the teaching and learning process began. First, things to do after entering class. I asked all the students to stand up to    pray, and asked someone to lead the prayer. Once finished I will greet them and invite them to sit back down. After that I will ask about today's attendance. The next step to make students enthusiastic is to provide energizers such as games or dancing together.

Second, before discussing the material, I will conduct a review by asking students about the learning in the previous meeting. Here we can ascertain whether students still remember the previous material.

The next stage I start the lesson by providing motivation in the form of pictures or videos, and I ask some questions to make students guess the topic of the lesson and to activate their knowledge of the topic. If the students can guess today's lesson then I can proceed to present the learning objectives and guiding questions to the students. The guiding questions will be asked at the end of the discussion, therefore students need to pay attention to the material. This is so that students always remember the guiding questions during the discussion, because the guiding questions are the main points in the discussion.
In the middle of the discussion, I will ask students if they understand or not such as "Do you understand?" "Is it clear?" "Do I understand?" and I also ask students if they have any questions or clarifications such as "Are there any questions or clarifications so far?" I also always appreciate students' answers by saying "Very good! Thank you" or "Excellent!"

Next is the collaborative activity. At this stage I usually divide the group into 4. Each group has instructions for their respective activities. at this stage students are given 10 minutes to discuss after which they will display the results of their discussion for 2 minutes each.

After the collaborative activity is complete I deliver integration in the form of questions. This part serves so that students can relate to their religion and environment when learning the material. Next I give a quiz related to the material. This quiz must be done individually. After that, I ask students to summaries the material they have learnt. At the end of the class, I give an assignment.

Finally, I ask the students to stand up and pray, and I say goodbye.

Time Management and Organizing Activities

At the beginning of the teaching process, I found it difficult to manage time as I had to complete all the discussion elements within 60 minutes. However, after a few teaching practices I got used to managing time. My cooperative teacher gave me a suggestion that I should be more assertive in telling students to focus on activities according to the time that has been completed. if during the collaborative activities students are still not finished then we can ask other groups first to perform, this way it can shorten the time.

Problem-solving

In solving the problems I faced, I was able to search for some related studies or techniques on google, articles and other media that I might be able to use during the teaching and learning process. I also actively asked my cooperative teacher about methods, materials, and classroom management. Fortunately, she always provides the right solution to my problems. Then if during the learning process there are students' questions that are not well understood, I will ask them.

Classroom Management

In managing the class and handling students, I always make sure that students are calm and ready to receive the material, such as asking them to sit in the appropriate seats and sit properly. I also apply the same in the middle of the learning process. During discussions, I ask students questions to ensure that they have understood the material. . During the preparation of group activities, I ask the students questions to ensure that they have understood the material.
